六、 課程概述:
(Course Description)
本學科為碩士選修課程,旨在啟發學生針對某些特定補充療法進行深入的科學探索並得以從中發掘研究假設。課程架構依據美國國家另類補充療法之分類系統,從心身療法、能量療法、身体操作療法、及生物療法中選擇ㄧ些療法於課堂作探討。各療法的簡介、注意事項、理論根源、其效用、重要性、及未來發展皆於課堂教學及討論中涵蓋。預期學生能具備運用另類療法應用於護理及相關學科之基本能力。

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. identify evidence-based information in relation to specific complementary and alternative therapies (Research).
2. demonstrate an understanding of specific complementary and alternative therapies (Direct care).
3. consider the regulatory, safety and legal aspects of complementary and alternative medicine use (Ethical decision-making).
4. evaluate the importance and use of alternative/complementary therapies in the health care system (Coaching).
5. identify future development of alternative/complementary therapies for health care delivery system in Taiwan (leadership).

Grading Policy
1. Critiques and class participation 30%
General:
Students are expected to attend each class, be punctual, and assume responsibility for assigned activities, be active participants in the learning process, and meet all established level objectives. The instructor reserves the right to drop any student who misses two or more classes.

Critiques
Students are required to do all assigned readings by class time to actively participate in each seminar discussion. In addition, each student will be assigned one article to be in charge of leading that article critique and discussion within the time frame of 15-20 min. Other students will be asked to write a one page summary describing each assigned readings.

2. Topic presentation and discussion 30%
Each student presents to the class an oral summary about her chosen CAM including purport, safety, efficacy, and implementation. The content of oral presentation must be approved by assigned lecturer two weeks in advance. The activities of presentation should include any prepared handouts, reading papers, practical activity, discussion and critique of papers.

3. Term paper 40%
There is a mandatory term paper required to pass this course. This paper is due on Jun, 18th, 2013. This paper is not accepted late. Failure to turn in a paper results in an F in the class.

Honesty:
There will be zero tolerance for academic dishonesty, including plagiarism. Plagiarism is the intentional use of another person’s idea, data, information, or work without giving credit. If a student cheats on an assignment, or plagiaries, the teachers will give an “F” grade on that assignment and will report the incident to the Dean.
